Office of University Communications

Release of graduation lists, dean's lists and scholarship lists

Graduation lists

Near the end of each semester, the office of the registrar provides the office of university communications with a list of graduation candidates for that semester, along with information indicating the student’s degree, participation in the Honors College, or preliminary eligibility for scholastic honors. This list of graduation candidates will be sent to hometown newspapers approximately one week after commencement. The appearance of the student’s name as part of this list does not mean the student has fulfilled all graduation requirements as final graduation checks have not been performed at this time. The official graduation list for the semester is not finalized until the mid-point of the following semester/session. This list also contains preliminary scholastic honors eligibility, which is based on student grades at the end of the preceding semester. Final scholastic honors eligibility is updated based on final grading and is reflected on the student’s transcript and diploma.

Dean’s lists

At the close of each semester, the records office provides the office of university communications with a list of students who earned a spot on that semester’s dean’s list. A list of students who earned a spot on the dean’s list will be released to hometown papers approximately two weeks after the end of the semester.

Scholarship lists

Each spring, the financial aid office provides the office of university communications with a list of incoming students who were awarded a university-funded, merit-based scholarship to attend Missouri State University. A list of students who earned a scholarship to Missouri State will be released to hometown papers by the beginning of June.

Release of information

Graduation lists, dean’s lists and scholarship lists will be sent to newspapers based on the home county listed for the student. For example, a student whose official record indicates that his/her permanent residence is in Texas County would have his/her name sent to all news papers that cover Texas County. If a student has changed his/her permanent residence to Springfield, the student’s name will be sent to newspapers that cover Greene County.

If a student wishes his/her name to be sent to a newspaper in a different county, he/she must contact the office of university communications at (417) 836-6397 each semester to request the change.

Students who have signed FERPA holds will not have information released to newspapers.
