The Veterans Recognition Breakfast is being held from 8-10 a.m. in the Plaster Student Union West Ballroom, and highlights Missouri State and World War II veterans with a video presentation. Ralph Manley, World War II veteran and Missouri State emeritus faculty member, will offer short remarks. Breakfast is free to all veterans and their guests. Call the Missouri State Transit Center at (417) 836-4825 to reserve seats.
Missouri State students and employees will Raise the Colors between 10:30-11 a.m. on the greens just north of Plaster Sports Complex. Color guard, music and flag escort are also being provided by Missouri State members. Chaplain David Hockensmith, U.S. Army (Ret.), will say a prayer, and State Representative Sara Lampe will give a short speech. The new Missouri State Veterans Memorial monument and taps will be dedicated to symbolize remembrance of the fallen at the end of the ceremony.
The Campus United Service Organizationwill recreate a World War II Canteen from 11:15 a.m.-noon in the PSU food court. Students, alumni and the Sugar Bears will perform.
A Veterans Day box luncheon and discussion panel takes place from 12:15-1:30 p.m. in PSU, Room 313. The discussion features veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom to discuss their service and answer questions. The luncheon is free and open to the public. Box lunches are provided for audience members.
The Air and Military Museum of the Ozarks will present displays in PSU throughout the day, and a Blackhawk helicopter will be available for inspection on the open field just north of Meyer Library. Videos of Missouri State and World War II veterans will be shown in the PSU Theater all day. These events are free and open to the public.
Throughout November, the third floor of Plaster Student Union is featuring the photo exhibit “Images of World War II” and Meyer Library will display “Items World War II Troops Carried.”
Parking in visitor lot 13 is available for veterans attending campus events Nov. 10. The Bear Park North parking garage on Cherry Street is also available.
