SPRINGFIELD — Singers in the community are invited to join the Missouri State University Collegiate Chorale for the rehearsal and performance of Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 8,” often called the “Symphony of a Thousand” because of its great demand for performers. Rehearsals will be held from 6-7:50 p.m. on Thursday evenings in Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, Room 305. The Chorale is directed by Dr. Guy B. Webb, professor of music. The piece will be presented May 6 at the President’s Concert in Hammons Hall.

“We are proud to be able to present one of the great choral/orchestral classics on campus,” Webb said. “It is a rare opportunity for singers in the community to be involved with this tremendous work.”

Singers may join the group for credit or non-credit and there are no audition requirements for those with previous choral experience. Those interested are encouraged to attend one of the first Thursday evening rehearsals beginning Jan. 18. For more information, contact Webb at 836-5182.
