Jim Lucas, a nationally-recognized presenter of Martin Luther King, Jr. speeches, will present renditions of King’s “I Have a Dream” and “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speeches as well as excerpts from “A Knock at Midnight” and “Letters from the Birmingham Jail.”
“Understanding the importance of celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is one facet of our office’s dedication to the multicultural education experience and appreciation of diversity,” says Alison Hahn, administrative secretary for the office of multicultural student services. “The holiday should not simply be a day off from school or work, but rather a time to reflect upon our history and current status of civil rights and freedoms.”
The event is free and open to the public and will include a performance by Dr. Richard Todd Payne, assistant professor of music.
