SPRINGFIELD — Dr. Michael Hendrix is leaving the faculty of Missouri State University, effective immediately. Hendrix, a tenured associate professor in biomedical sciences, and the university reached a tentative separation agreement today, which must be approved by the Board of Governors.

“Dr. Hendrix approached me today and indicated that he thought it would be in the best interest of his family, himself and the university if he left the institution,” said Missouri State Provost Belinda McCarthy. “We concurred and came to an agreement fairly quickly after that.

“A written agreement is necessary since he is a tenured faculty member. In addition, his teaching and research have been very good during his time at Missouri State.”

On April 3, the university issued a public statement regarding Hendrix, who is on the Greene County Sexual Offenders List for a rape of a minor 25 years ago in Ohio. Later that week, the university announced that Hendrix’s office would be moved and that he would be reassigned, with limited teaching responsibilities. On April 20, Hendrix went on administrative leave after additional questions had been raised.

From 1988-95, Hendrix worked at the University of Cincinnati, first as a post-doctoral assistant (1988-92) and then as a research assistant professor (1992-95). From 1990-95, he also served as an adjunct assistant professor at Wilmington College and a visiting assistant professor at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio (1993-95). Hendrix joined the Missouri State faculty in 1995 and was tenured in 2000.
