“I believe Mary Sheid will do an excellent job leading the Board of Governors,” said Missouri State President Michael T. Nietzel. “She is active with the university; she cares about students, and she has very good institutional knowledge from her years on the Board and as vice president. All of us at the university look forward to working with her.”
Sheid holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drury University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. In addition, she is an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist through the ABPTS via the Board Specialization Exam and also is a Credentialed MDT through the McKenzie International Institute. Sheid is the owner of Physical Therapy Specialists Clinic, Inc. in West Plains and Mountain Grove. She was first appointed to the Board in 2002 and reappointed in 2005. Her term expires Aug. 28, 2011.
Michael Duggan was first appointed to the Board in 2003, and reappointed in 2005 to serve through Aug. 28, 2011. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State and is vice president of sales for Dot Foods Inc., of St. Louis. He also volunteers his time at Camp Wyman Children's Camp and for Friends of Kids with Cancer.
In addition to voting on new officers, a Board of Governors Citizen Scholar Award was approved. This award will annually recognize five full-time students who have made significant accomplishments while enrolled at one of the campuses at Missouri State University. Preference will be given to upper class students who have contributed to the university, advanced the university’s public affairs mission, have been significantly engaged in extra-curricular accomplishments, and/or in significant service activities in the community.
Committee membership for the next year was also announced:
Passed and signed into law in 2005, Senate Bill 98, which authorized the name change to Missouri State University, stipulates that the Board of Governors should be comprised of 10 members, nine voting members representing all nine Congressional districts in the state and one non-voting student member. There are currently two vacancies on the Board.
