SPRINGFIELD — Dr. David Oatman, professor of health, physical education and recreation at Missouri State University, will sign copies of his book “Old Favorites, New Fun: Physical Education Activities for Children” from 1-3:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at Barnes and Noble, 3055 S. Glenstone Ave. in conjunction with Reading Roundup and Springfield Public Schools (SPS).

Oatman will join local authors David Harrison and Todd Parnell, who serves as interim president of Drury University. Harrison received an honorary doctorate from Missouri State University in 2005.

Reading Roundup began in 2001 as a grassroots effort with a goal to add tens of thousands of needed new titles and replace outdated material at SPS libraries. Since then, the combined efforts of the district, Reading Roundup volunteers and others have added or replaced more than 190,000 library books costing more than $3.6 million.
