The Ozark Jubilee was the creation of local businessmen and visionaries Si Siman, Ralph Foster, Lester Cox and John Mahaffey and was broadcast live each week from the Jewel Theater over the ABC television network. Hosted by legendary entertainer Red Foley, the pioneering series made a lasting impact on network television, country music and the Ozarks.
Ozarks Public Television will also present the first and last episodes from the popular series as part of its locally-produced “Ozarks Reflections,” a weekly series showcasing a variety of programs about Ozarks topics or created by people from the Ozarks. This local anthology series can be seen on Thursday nights at 8 p.m.
“The Ozark Jubilee is an extraordinary and lasting part of our local history that did much in developing early television, elevating an appreciation of country music and bringing people to the Ozarks,” said Tom Carter, OPT programming and production manager. “The individuals who were involved with this landmark series have much to be proud of. It’s an amazing and highly entertaining accomplishment.”
In addition to original vintage episodes, OPT will also present their locally-produced documentary, “Ozark Jubilee: A Living Legacy.” Broadcasts of these programs are made possible through special arrangement and the support of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tenn.
