SPRINGFIELD — Student Ronda Thompson-Beckman has withdrawn her age discrimination claim against the university and, specifically, the School of Social Work that she had filed with the U.S. Office of Civil Rights. Accordingly, Missouri State University and Thompson-Beckman have signed a settlement agreement that includes the following elements:
- No money was requested by Ms. Thompson-Beckman or paid by the university to settle this claim
- Ms. Thompson-Beckman will not appeal her dismissal from the social work program
- Ms. Thompson-Beckman will be allowed to complete one class in which she is currently enrolled
- Ms. Thompson-Beckman has agreed not to seek future enrollment in any other class at the university
"Clearly, this complaint was proven to be without merit,” said university General Counsel Clif Smart. “Our faculty members acted appropriately in every way and, in the end, they were vindicated. We are pleased this matter was resolved quickly and in this manner.”
