'Becoming Legends: Living the Legacy' Homecoming activities announced

SPRINGFIELD — The southwest Missouri community is invited to join the celebration of Missouri State University’s “Becoming Legends: Living the Legacy” Homecoming. Students will celebrate with festivities Oct. 3-11, while most of the community events will be held Oct. 10-11.
Homecoming weekend festivities will begin with the Missouri State Homecoming dinner and awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at University Plaza Convention Center. This event is open to the public. Reservations are required and tickets are $26. For more information, contact the office of alumni relations at 836-5654.

Recipients of the Award of Appreciation are Dr. Donal J. Stanton, professor emeritus of communication at Missouri State, Nixa, Mo.; and Dr. Robert L. Trewatha, professor emeritus of management at Missouri State, Springfield, Mo. The Outstanding Young Alumni Award will be presented to Kelli Wolf Moles, ’06, JPMorgan Securities Inc. and civic leader, New York, New York. The recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award is Mary Asher Tearney, ’58, educator and community leader, Leawood, Kan. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to William L. Rowe, Jr., ’61, director of athletics at Missouri State, Springfield, Mo. 

The Homecoming parade starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 11. The parade travels south from the corner of John Q. Hammons Parkway and St. Louis Street, proceeds west on Cherry Street to Holland Avenue and continues south on Holland to Grand Avenue. Parade spectators are encouraged to approach the Missouri State campus from the east and park in Bear Park North (west of Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts), Bear Park South (on the corner of Grand and Holland) or in Lot 25 (south of Hammons Student Center). Bear Park North will be inaccessible beginning at 8:30 a.m. until the parade ends. The event is free and open to the public. BearFest Village will open at 9 a.m. in lots 22 and 24, south of Plaster Sports Complex. This will be the ultimate tailgating experience with food, games and entertainment for all ages. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Lance Kettering, director of corporate relations and marketing, at 836-4143.

The Homecoming football game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Plaster Sports Complex. Missouri State will take on Youngstown State. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Missouri State box office at 836-7678 or 1-888-4-767-TIX. The Pride Band will perform and the Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime.
